“European Starling”

Wilsall, MT - 2021

Here is a European Starling, or Sturnus Vulgaris, feeding on an elk carcass in October of 2021. They develop white spots during the winter and turn dark and glossy in the summer, all without shedding their feathers.

Believe it or not, these birds were actually introduced in the US in the 19th century by a bunch of Shakespeare enthusiasts in NY’s Central Park. Their interest was to introduce birds referenced by Shakespeare.
