Framed vs. unframed works:

Framed PRINTs:

Q: Why Do i need to inquire about framed works?

A: Shipping via Freight for the “Standard” and “Collectors” pieces is not a simple arrangement. I do not offer a flat-rate shipping fee and I work with clients to select shipping speeds they want so prices vary significantly and those prices can only be calculated after I have had a crate constructed for shipment. I wish to only charge clients the exact cost to me. “Small” pieces are much quicker and inexpensive to double-box and ship!

B: I also wish to take the time to educate clients on the selection of glass for their framing (Standard UV Acrylic vs. Museum Acrylic)

Q: Why are framed works so much more expensive?

A: This is not poster art. These are fine-art pieces, crafted to last. Professional framing is very expensive, but it is paramount to its longevity and it accentuates the art dramatically. I also do not sacrifice quality in the slightest—my team are some of the best in the business. Improperly framed works can deteriorate in a matter of months due to fluctuation in humidity and other environmental factors.

B: Regarding the cost itself: I only charge the actual cost of framing in this “premium”.

C: if you wish to frame it yourself and save some money on shipping (highly recommended), see below in “Unframed Prints”

Q: What is the difference between “Standard UV Acrylic” and “Museum Acrylic”?

A: These are the two different types of “glass” (acrylic or “plexiglass”) that I use in framing. There is a significant difference in Museum Acrylic in its ability to reduce reflections/glare. The difference is stark but it becomes most noticeable with darker pieces (i.e. “A Flower Among The Crazies”). You may look at an example of mine with two pieces here and another of a display from Optium here.

Unframed Prints:

Q: Framing looks too expensive. How do i go about getting this framed?

A: Super fair! You can save yourself a bundle, but I suggest you contact me for guidance at jack@jdcreativegallery.com. I am more than happy to help you find a framer as well as provide you and the framer information on how I frame my works, but also provide that framer with the information on my exact materials and specs I use to frame them myself.

Q: Handling instructions for unframed prints?

A: DO NOT OPEN or handle the print after your receive it. This could result in a static charge which could accumulate dust upon framing. The package should be brought to your local professional framing shop where they will safely open it.

B: Get it to a framer ASAP as it shouldn’t be kept in a tube terribly long—it can make framing difficult and you run the risk of damage over time.

UNFRAMED PRINT DISCLAIMER: Under no circumstance should you open your unframed work. I am not responsible for the damage that can happen over time to the piece—especially if the client does not have the piece framed properly by a professional. The works that are sold unframed should be foam core mounted and matted in a custom frame by a framing professional. Email me at jack@jdcreativegallery.com if you would like specific specs and instructions. Damaged unframed prints can be replaced for a flat fee of $500 after proof has been provided the work has been destroyed and disposed of.

Shipping:

Q: How do you charge for shipping?

A: I will follow up with a PayPal invoice for you to pay and I will not ship until that invoice has been paid. I do not charge flat-rate shipping at this time and I don’t want anyone paying more than they have to for shipping.

Q: how are your pieces shipped?

  • (Unframed): All unframed works are shipped in protected cardboard tubes or boxes.

  • (Framed): “Small” pieces are shipped in double-boxed cardboard. “Standard” and “Collector” pieces are shipped in wooden crates for extra protection for the size. Please note this can take extra time for the crates to be crafted and the freight to be picked up. Once I have all crate specs (size and weight), I can contact you with shipping speed options. Items will not be shipped until payment has been made.

Q: What happens if a print is damaged in shipping?

A: In the event that a piece is damaged in shipping, I will make it right and all shipments are sufficiently insured. I will just ask for your patience. First, I will require an extensive amount of images to be sent to me to evaluate the damage, which is required by UPS to file my claim. Typically, UPS will want to pick up the damaged piece for their own claim. I will get a new piece back to you as soon as possible.

B: If it is repairable, I’ll help you in this process.

General FAQs:

Q: what mediums do you offer with your photo prints?

A: My primary medium is Hahnemüehle Photo Rag Baryta. All frames are professionally done in Miami.

Q: Why aren't all of the photos available in the shopping page?

A: Prints that are not listed in the shop, but remain in my gallery, are available but have not been proofed. Send me an email with your inquiry at Jack@JDCreativeGallery.com and we can get started on your wants and needs!

Q: Why do prints take so long?

A: I do not hold work in inventory. To print my work, not only do I need to be in Florida, I also need to travel to Miami (1.5 hours x 2) in order to examine, sign, and then prep each piece to be shipped. This can take 1 week, depending on my printers availability. If the image has not been previously printed, I will need to run proof images, which adds an additional round of this journey—if not 2. Having works framed also requires another round of travel to have it framed and then crated for shipment. Framing can range from 2-4 weeks and another week for crating.
